Miss Smruta Shanbhag, often known as Ruth, is a fully accredited and registered surgeon, specialising in Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology. Miss Shanbhag commenced her medical journey at Goa University, where she graduated in 1995 with a strong academic record. Her passion for women’s health led her to pursue postgraduate studies in Gynaecology. During this time, she undertook significant research, focusing on the ultrasound studies of pelvic masses for her thesis. This early interest in diagnostic imaging and complex pelvic conditions laid a solid foundation for her future specialisation.

Her training took her to Aberdeen, Scotland, where she refined her skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, working alongside some of the leading experts in the field. She later completed her specialist training at the esteemed James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, one of the UK’s premier institutions for medical education. Here, she obtained certifications in Gynaecology and undertook sub-specialist training in Gynaecological Oncology, cementing her expertise in managing both benign and malignant gynaecological disorders.

Miss Shanbhag’s professional journey is marked by significant roles across various prestigious medical institutions in the UK. For nine years, she served as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist in Glasgow, where she gained a reputation for her meticulous surgical skills and compassionate patient care. Her expertise in managing complex cases made her a respected figure in the medical community.

Currently, Smruta Shanbhag is based in the West Midlands, where she continues her dedication to women’s health as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon at HCA Harborne in Birmingham. Additionally, she is the sole consultant providing gynaecological oncology services in the private sector within Coventry and Warwickshire, making her a sought-after specialist in the region.

Miss Shanbhag’s clinical expertise is vast, covering a wide range of gynaecological conditions. She has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
